Welcome to my online journal. I'm Alex Mead. For many years people
called me AMPro --so much so that it seemed like my name. More recently,
a lot of people on the internet have come to know me as green.earth.al.
In case anyone's been wondering what I've been up to, this journal is a
place to find out.

East Side Pride
(this news item posted on January.21.2004)
Yesterday morning I went out with East Side PRIDE to Niagara Mohawk to demand that they fix the street lights on the East Side of Buffalo. East Side Pride had a group of about 12 senior citizens, and I gotta say... It was much more fun doing an action with senior citizens than it is with young people. Older folks seem to actually believe that they can change things whereas young people always seem to think that whatever we're doing is doomed to failure. That seems like it's the opposite of the way it should be, but I'm just really thankful that I got to go along and I hope I can work with them again soon. What a great group of folks.
Oh, and we did get a meeting with the people at Niagara Mohawk. And after 3 different security guards told us we were trespassing and we had to leave they finally had a corporate officer come out and talk to us and take our list of broken street lights and agree to meet with us.
Good work.

January project blitz
(this news item posted on January.19.2004)
Okay, so I'm still way behind. But with good reason. My girlfriend moved to Massechusetts *cry* and we spent the two weeks prior to her departure just visiting with all our friends while we had the chance. Plus we were doing all of our normal activism in those two weeks. And before that I was sick for a month, so there you have it.
Anyway, lately I've been part of a coalition that has been coming together to educate people about local police abuse, monitor police activity, and determine what has to happen for change. http://www.CoalitionAgainstPoliceAbuse.com
Then I've been heavily involed in trying to form a group of people to make sure that our local co-op remains as democratic as possible as it moves to a bigger, more prominent locale. http://www.ILoveMyCoop.com
And today I've been writing a Perl script to make the Flyer Depot on the ANSWER website much nicer. Hopefully that will be ready by tomorrow. http://www.BuffaloANSWER.org/flyers
And I've registered a whole TON of domain names for clients and for myself because I need a million projects going to distract me from the fact that my sweetheart is many hundreds of miles away, and even I can't ride my bike that far. Especially now. It's damned cold.
