Welcome to my online journal. I'm Alex Mead. For many years people called me AMPro --so much so that it seemed like my name. More recently, a lot of people on the internet have come to know me as green.earth.al. In case anyone's been wondering what I've been up to, this journal is a place to find out.

Adventures in Booksellin
(this news item posted on March.07.2005)

When we last left our author... *theme music*... I was awaiting the first copies of my new book Relations: McEmpire.

Okay, so since then... Um... couple Saturdays ago there was a big progressive annual party called the Lizzard Ball (in previous years I've helped to organize it). This year I just got myself a table and started auctioning off some of the original artwork to raise money to print more copies of the book.

Then, the following Monday I had agreed to guest host my friend's radio program since he was going to be tied up in court and couldn't host it himself (he's a lawyer in adition to being a radio host). Okay, so, guess what. I got to the radio station and then realized that I had given out chapter 1 of my manuscript to someone at the Lizzard Ball. I had intended to print out another one but I forgot. So I was scheduled to do a reading, and no chapter 1, and also... the door to the radio station was locked. But I remained calm like a bomb and just rifled through the manuscript to see what other sections would serve as a good intro and found some stuff from chapter three and then the engineer for the radio show showed up to let me into the studio and I had to read/talk for an hour and I wasn't prepared at all but I still did great because I'm fresh like that.

Wednesday I was scheduled to be on the radio for another hour promoting my book and the same radio engineer guy that let me in so I could guest host Daire's show is also the radio engineer for Theresa's show, and during the show he called up our biggest local independant bookstore and arranged to have them sell my book. I had told people on Monday that I would know where they could buy a copy by Wednesday and I actually didn't have time to figure it out, so Jim the engineer really saved me again.

Then I got home from the radio show and there was a message on my machine from the land lady saying that UPS had been by and they tried to deliver the package at the front house and left when they didn't get an answer. Instead of a big box full of my new book I had one of those little "we'll be back tomorrow" stickers from UPS.

NOOOOOOOOOO!

So I wrote some notes on little sticky pad paper capable of instructing even the most clueless UPS guy how to get to the back house and that I was home and even if I was sleeping they were not to leave without delivering my package.

So then, I was woken up by a beautiful man in a brown uniform who is my regular UPS guy and he explained that he'd just come back from vacation. [forgiven so long as he doesn't do it again]. And so there was my beautiful baby book. She weighs .65 lbs. And all of her fingers and toes were there (except for a little piece of the cover cut off (they cut off my question mark ))

So then by Friday I had sold out of my first run and totally exhausted myself biking to all these bookstores and people's houses. I am now awaiting a second shipment.

Oh. And then last night my uncle called and left a message on my machine and he is ordering TWENTY FIVE copies of my book. ROCK ON!

So, now I am having another book promotion party at my house on the 26th.

Writing books is fun. Everyone should write one.

Yay! They're here!
(this news item posted on March.04.2005)

So, on Wednesday night the first print run of my book showed up on my doorstep. I signed and numbered them. Then I sent a bunch out to the lovely people that I need to have read it. I've spent the last two days running around lining up local bookstores to sell it and I've finally run out of copies. I feel like a real author now. This has been a great week.

In other news: There's a place called the Massechusetts Ave Project, a community center near my house. They have really cool community dinners where I'm meeting a lot of neat people from all over the city, and then the first wednesday of each month they host an open mic, and this past wednesday was just incredible. My friend Jason invited up some of the hand drummers and the two guitarists we had in the audience and they just jamed and then we passed the mic around and went crazy. We knocked that building right outa bed. Rappin, singin, breakdancing... I already can't stop thinking about next month and it was only a couple days ago.
