Comments on this book:
Alex is a very compassionate human being and writer. He is a great inspiration to those
of us who sometimes doubt the integrity of human nature.
His great sense of humor has often gotten me out of my despondency.
~Heather K. [Sweetheart]
Alex Mead is my neighbor and a friend (and of many of you), a writer, activist for social
justice, visual artist, bicyclist non pariel, and webmaster extraordinairre. [His] style is
direct, dry, descriptive, and very genuinely the voice of a rational young man coming up in
a world that makes no sense at all. He skillfully and unpretentiously demonstrates the
relationship of the personal and political, using language and imagery anyone can access,
whether you grew up on Dodge Street or St. James Street, or both. When you read it, you
will wish you were as fortunate as Alex, to know the languages of at least two worlds, and
you'll recognize the gift he is to our community. And it's a neat tour thru Buffalo's hoods.
-Roxanne [Author, Artist, Women in Black]
"It's very engaging, It's very digestable, the writing is really nice.
It's subtle and easy, not simple, but it's easy."
-Theresa [Hostess of speakEasy radio]
Hey Alex
Thank you so much for sending me the link... It's rather addictive reading I have to say!
It's a privilege to be able to read about somebody's life like that, and you've put it all
together with humour (there's that U thing again!) and humility. And I like the fact that
as I'm reading it, I can imagine you just sitting there talking about your life (if that
makes sense).
-Matt "MP73" [Beastie Boys BBS]
Peacemakers and Peacelovers,
Many people like to read in the summer, either in their backyards or at the beach or in a park.
I read many evenings all year round and can recommend a book that I am currently enjoying. It
is, in fact, written by one of our own. I am speaking about Alex Mead's autobiography. It is
extremely well written, poignant and funny, too. It's price is reasonable and the book is a
real page turner.
Peacefully,
-Sandy Carrubba [chairwoman, Erie Country Green Party]
