journalWelcome to my online journal. I'm Alex Mead. For many years people called me AMPro --so much so that it seemed like my name. More recently, a lot of people on the internet have come to know me as green.earth.al and in show biz...My Rap Name is Alex. Whatever name I'm known by, I still seem to have the same opinions and convictions, I still like to write and make public my introspection and try to say something that will provoke some thoughts and help people see the world in new and helpful ways.

Color Inside the Lines
by My Rap Name Is Alex

Remember being young with coloring books? wanting every grown-up to look
and they didn't care about your artistic expression or even how much time it took
They just wanted to know "Way to go! I like how you stayed inside the lines!"
Well my crayon ranged all over so they tried to say I was outta my mind
Don't color outside those lines or else your picture will be sloppy
You nead to learn to live inside the world of orthodoxy
Don't talk out of turn, you'll learn, Don't stand so close to me when y'breathe
Don't touch hot stoves, go blow ya nose, I don't like when you wipe it on your sleeve
Don't hit. Don't throw a fit. Don't ask why. Don't cry out loud
Don't break that. Don't take that. Hey! Go Play! Don't have your head way up in the clouds
Don't talk back to grown ups, and never ever ever show disrespect for people's property
Don't color outside those lines, we've got to color pictures properly

As I began to sprout figured it out what all that was all about
We don't shout, shout, let it all out, just be inactive when in doubt
Fold your hands neatly, speak discretely, and ONLY when you're spoken to first
You'll learn to cheat me, give up completely, and always always assume the worst
We should all really learn to trust the system, and try to believe it's all there iz
And valuble things are that which bring that C.R.E.A.M. to biznisses
Let it be understood that old growth woods don't take out ads in publications
And amber waves of grain won't train to attack all the missbehavin' nations
So to spite these tree huggin types I likes to imagine two trees fixin to fight
one been in the other's light, and they both been gettin drunk all night
Evergreen, you bein mean, synthisizin all that junk
put up ya branches, I'm gonna knock ya canopy off ya trunk
Poplar please, put up your leaves, you always in my breeze
S'why you'r mom's a sleeze, opened her knees and got the Dutch Elm Disease
Yeah that would be real whack, but it's human beans act like that
Like a tree is just paychecks for lumberjacks
'S long as we divide the guilt into millionths we don't gotta pay it no mind
We just have to pick up the next crayon and color inside them lines

Don't forget, don't fret, don't let that stainkin doorknob hit you
Don't you agree that that tree would probabLEE look better as toilet tissue
Don't you see I'm busy? Don't bother me with this today
Don't get in the loggers' way, Don't you think air is overrated anyway?
Don't give me no eggheaded science talk, about "carbon sequestration"
Don't you ever stop to consider: deforrestation is just in your overactive imagination?
Don't go blaming corporations for all your so called problems with pollution
Don't be absurd, use dirty words, I heard sombody said Revo...*mumble*
How are you supposed to defend the Earth? Don't ax me, man Ioun't know
You'll figure something out, color inside the lines as you go

So now we're all like what the heck, and I don't mean no disrespect
but it seems the only things we're allowed to do are the things that don't have much effect
Jimmy Carter can't even tell peeps to turn down the heat and put on a sweater
and a thousand clever letters to the editor never made my air quality any better
I could write to my congressman, he claimed he was an environmentalist when he ran
but now he's on K-street gettin sump'n'a eat with his lobbyiest friend: the man
And preserving these precious trees ain't really part of HIS plan
But that's fine, you just color inside them lines while you still can
So that's the end of this song, and my ramblin, scramblin carryin on
but DON'T IT ALWAYS SEEM TO GO... YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU'VE GOT... till it's... gone

======================================
I used to go to open mic at a place called Coffe& and overcome my shyness and fear of stages. Until it burned down. And then my friend Jason invited the Coffe& community to come over to the Mass Avenue Project community center once a month. And then the community center burned down. So now the M.A.P. is open in a new building and we had out first open mic in about 8 months and so I wrote that to perform there. It was nice. We got a bit of that old magic back.
